Anyi, Nanchang, Jiangxi, ChinaTriều đại nhà Hạ của Trung Quốc (từ khoảng năm 2070 đến khoảng năm 1600 trước Công nguyên) là triều đại sớm nhất trong Tam triều được mô tả trong các ghi chép lịch sử cổ đại như Sử ký vĩ đại của Tư Mã Thiên và Biên niên sử tre. Triều đại này thường được các học giả phương Tây coi là thần thoại, nhưng ở Trung Quốc, nó thường gắn liền với địa điểm đầu thời kỳ đồ đồng tại Erlitou được khai quật ở Hà Nam vào năm 1959. Vì không có văn bản nào được khai quật tại Eritou hay bất kỳ địa điểm cùng thời nào khác nên không có cách nào để chứng minh liệu triều đại nhà Hạ có tồn tại hay không. Dù thế nào đi nữa, địa điểm Erlitou có một mức độ tổ chức chính trị không thể phù hợp với những truyền thuyết về nhà Hạ được ghi lại trong các văn bản sau này. sau này được nhà Thương và nhà Chu chấp nhận.

Sima Qian aspired to compile history and toured around China
Sima Qian (c. 145 – c. 86 BCE) was a Chinese historian of the early Han dynasty (206 BCE – CE 220). He is considered the father of Chinese historiography for his Records of the Grand Historian, a general history of China covering more than two thousand years beginning from the rise of the legendary Yellow Emperor and the formation of the first Chinese polity to the reigning sovereign of Sima Qian's time, Emperor Wu of Han. As the first universal history of the world as it was known to the ancient Chinese, the Records of the Grand Historian served as a model for official history-writing for subsequent Chinese dynasties and the Chinese cultural sphere (Korea, Vietnam, Japan) up until the 20th century.
