Ani, ArmeniaS nadějí na dobytí Caesarea Mazaca, hlavního města Kappadokie, se Alp Arslan postavil do čela turkomanské“ kavalérie, překročil Eufrat, vstoupil a napadl město. Spolu s Nizam al-Mulkem pak pochodoval do Arménie a Gruzie , kterou dobyl v roce 1064. Po 25denním obléhání Seldžukové dobyli Ani, hlavní město Arménie, a vyvraždili jeho obyvatelstvo.
