PolandDen tredje deling af Polen (1795) var den sidste i rækken af delingerne af Polen-Litauen og det polsk-litauiske samveldes land blandt Preussen, Habsburg-monarkiet og det russiske imperium, som reelt afsluttede polsk-litauisk nationale suverænitet indtil 1918. Delingen var resultatet af Kościuszko-oprøret og blev fulgt af en række polske opstande i perioden.

PolandMens Polen ikke eksisterede som en selvstændig stat under 1. Verdenskrig , betød dets geografiske placering mellem de kæmpende magter, at mange kampe og forfærdelige menneskelige og materielle tab fandt sted på de polske lande mellem 1914 og 1918. Da Første Verdenskrig startede, var polsk territorium delte sig under opdelingerne mellem Østrig-Ungarn, det tyske imperium og det russiske imperium , og blev skueplads for mange operationer på østfronten under 1. verdenskrig. I kølvandet på krigen, efter sammenbruddet af det russiske, tyske og østrigske -Ungarske imperier, Polen blev en selvstændig republik.
