About
Once upon a time, I loved reading picture books at the local library. Today, I'm still fascinated about stories that happened "a long, long time ago" from "lands far, far away". When I decided to study History again, I wanted to create something to help me. This was how HistoryMaps started.
Learn History VisuallyTraditional history lessons can be abstract and boring. Visual learning make history intuitive and fun. Maps, timelines, images, and videos bring historical events to life, making them easier to understand and remember.
With World History Timeline, you can explore events at any point in time on an interactive timeline map. MapBoard is a whiteboard for maps. You can quickly add, move, and remove elements such as images, locations and text right on a interactive map. Museum is our virtual museum, where you can explore and interact with objects and sites from the past. Timelines Game is a fun card game that tests what you just learned by placing event cards in the right order.
WarMaps immerses you in the pivotal battles and wars that shaped history, featuring detailed battle maps, images and videos that bring these conflicts to life. Books is a beautiful visual experience, presenting curated collections of history books with vibrant covers, arranged like a real bookshelf. Today in History is your daily visual snapshot of significant events that happened on this day, making every day an opportunity to learn something new.
Ask Herodotus is your personal history chatbot, ready to answer your questions and fulfill your requests. It's available globally, no matter which page you're on. If you're reading a History Map and have a quick question, it pops up as a sidebar to give you instant answers, letting you continue learning without interruption. It also integrates seamlessly with tools like MapBoard, acting as your research assistant to help you gather information and enrich your projects.
History for AllHistoryMaps has over 10,000 World History content available in 58 languages to ensure accessibility for everyone in the world. Teachers and educators can easily integrate this content into their Learning Management Systems (LMS) by linking or embedding it directly, making it a seamless addition to their curriculum. Additionally, the site accommodates blind and visually-impaired users.
Support the ProjectFor the past five years, I've been self-funding this project, but I'm now facing the challenge of finding a way to make it sustainable in the near future. The best way to support the project is with a subscription. Alternatively, donations with Stripe and Donate with Crypto are welcome, and even a simple thank you means a lot.
More to ComeLastly, the site is in a constant state of flux. New features are tested, new forms of content are tried, content is added, revised and improved. Stay updated with the Blog. I have a lot more plans, ideas, and experiments in store. Oh yeah, because I love puzzles and secret things, I hid a lot of the features on the site! Can you find some of them?
