Regele Prithvi Narayan Shah, ultimul monarh Gorkhali, s-a autoproclamat Regatul nou unificat al Nepalului ca Asal Hindustan („Țara reală a hindușilor”) din cauza Indiei de Nord, condusă de conducătorii islamici Mughal. Proclamația a fost făcută pentru a aplica codul social hindus Dharmashastra asupra domniei sale și pentru a se referi la țara sa ca fiind locuibilă pentru hinduși. De asemenea, el a trimis India de Nord ca Mughlan (țara Mughals) și a numit regiunea infiltrată de străinii musulmani.

După cucerirea Gorkhali din Valea Kathmandu, regele Prithvi Narayan Shah a expulzat misionarii creștini din Capucin din Patan și l -au revizuit pe Nepal ca Asal Hindustan („Țara reală a hindușilor”). Tagadharis-ul hindus, un grup socio-religios hindus nepalez, au primit statutul privilegiat în capitala nepaleză. De atunci hinduisarea a devenit politica semnificativă a Regatului Nepalului. Profesorul Harka Gurung speculează că prezența stăpânirii islamice Mughal și a stăpânirii britanice creștine în India a obligat fundamentul ortodoxiei Brahmin în Nepal pentru a construi un refugiu pentru hinduși în Regatul Nepalului.
