O desastre de Chernobyl foi um acidente nuclear que ocorreu em 26 de abril de 1986 no reator número 4 da usina nuclear de Chernobyl, perto da cidade de Pripyat, no norte da SSR ucraniana na União Soviética. É um dos dois acidentes de energia nuclear classificados às sete - a severidade máxima - na escala internacional de eventos nucleares, sendo o outro o desastre nuclear de Fukushima de 2011 no Japão. A resposta inicial de emergência, juntamente com a descontaminação posterior do meio ambiente, envolveu mais de 500.000 funcionários e custou cerca de 18 bilhões de roubos - aproximadamente US $ 68 bilhões em 2019, ajustados pela inflação.
