Banking Centers of the Knights Templar

The Knights Templar, a medieval Christian military order founded in 1119 CE, became influential in banking by establishing an extensive financial network across Europe and the Holy Land. They innovated early forms of banking services such as issuing letters of credit to pilgrims, safeguarding valuable assets, and facilitating fund transfers between regions. Their strategically located preceptories and commanderies functioned as both religious and financial centers, offering secure deposits and loans. This financial acumen helped fund the Crusades and contributed to their immense wealth and power until their abrupt dissolution in 1312 CE by Pope Clement V.
