MaltaEn 1530, después de siete años de mudarse de un lugar a otro en Europa, el Papa Clemente VII, él mismo un Caballero, llegó a un acuerdo con Carlos V, Emperador del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico, también Rey deEspaña y Sicilia, para proporcionar a los caballeros alojamientos permanentes en Malta, Gozo y el puerto norteafricano de Trípoli en feudo perpetuo a cambio de una cuota anual de un solo halcón maltés (el tributo del halcón maltés), que debían enviar el día de los difuntos al representante del rey, el virrey de Sicilia.
