The French met the remnants of Conrad's army at Lopadion, and Conrad joined Louis's force. They followed Otto of Freising's route, moving closer to the Mediterranean coast, and arrived at Ephesus in December, where they learned that the Turks were preparing to attack them.
The Turks were indeed waiting to attack, but in a small battle outside Ephesus on 24 December 1147, the French proved victorious.
